After a decade of driving sales and performing standup comedy around the Twin Cities metro area, Marial “settled” down to start a family, and a career, at the University of Minnesota. Five short years later, Marial found herself applying to divorce her addict ex on the same day she applied to the University of Minnesota’s College of Education & Human Development to pursue a Master’s in education. Attaining higher education while becoming a single-parent to four children while working full-time and part-time jobs left Marial not only physically tired, but mentally exhausted and completely broke. Marial now focuses her advocacy and research on the intersections of single parenting and employment to explore the implications on employees, employers, caretakers, and children. When Marial is not exploring something new on her own, she can be found learning alongside her four young children. along the beautiful riverbanks of the St. Croix in Hudson, WI.
